Studies at some leading universities have found the best way to control them is to get three tubes of caulk and a caulk gun and go around the house and fill every crack and hole you can find, especially on the south and west sides. It’s a lot of work but these Asian ladybugs get between the outer wall of the house and the inner wall. If they find a hole in the inner wall, well, then they are in your house. Once there the best control is a vacuum. If ther are quite a few you may want to use a vacuum with a disposable bag. The vacuum beats them around a little and they smell bad.

The beauty of caulk is it works for years and it keeps out a lot of other pests like spiders, ants, millipedes, etc.

You other option is to get a hose-end sprayer and spray the sides of your house with malathion or sevin. This will kill most of them before they can get between the walls. The downside is you have to do it every year. The first year may be an emergency and your only option but do you really want to have to spray your house every year? And who wants to live in a house coated with pesticide?

Go for the caulk. I did it and I had exactly 3 of them show up in my house all last autumn and winter.

I’m going to take a guess here. You may have box elder beetles instead of ladybugs. Box elder bugs are known to come into homes such as you are describing. They are attracted to certain trees such as Box Elder trees or Soapberry trees. They are going to do this every year as long as you have that tree around. So try to identify the trees you have near you. The only option you really have is to remove the tree. Good luck.

Before winter they got into the attic and walls from the outside to wait for warmer weather.. Many ceiling light fixtures will show a little light up in the attic so now when the beetles get active they crawl towards the light finding their way inside…when you find them near a window they are not coming in but are trying to get out. No way to stop them for this year…you need to caulk and seal all possible openings on the exterior to help keep them from showing up next year.

My sister has the same problem. She uses the vaccuum cleaner to suck them out. The only way to prevent them from getting into your house is to reseal all the openings, particularly cracks around windows and doors. When she did that, she cut the numbers of ladybugs the next time around dramatically.

I should add that my sister loves ladybugs and approves of them in her garden, but she was getting THOUSANDS of ladybugs in her porch entry and hundreds in the house.

The Asian Multi Colored Ladybug. Any general insecticide on the exterior wall where you are seeing them will slow them down, pyretrhoid based products will have some repellent to them…you really need to caulk any possible openings that they will use to get into the walls and attic. It actually might be too late to stop them this year ..if you vacuum them up with the hose extension, secure an old stocking on the hose to act as a filter. You can have the attic treated and that will also help a bit

We’ve had a ladybug invasion! So annoying! My husband and I live in Charlottesville, VA and it’s been pretty warm the past 2 days. They’re everywhere! I’m really tired of them but at the same time I don’t want to kill them because they’re not bad, just irritating. We also recently had a stinkbug invasion too, a few weeks ago. Not sure what the deal is!

I’m not really sure why this happens. It’s happened to me before. I remember when I lived in TX our the whole side of our house was covered in them one year. It always happens in the fall, so they must be migrating or something!

EDIT: Why are people calling them asian beetles? They look like ladybugs to me!

I have a red heart behind my ear and i’ve had it for about 5 years and still LOVE it. I get all kinds of complements on it and about how unique it is.

I say keep it simple, i prefer one color and just the outline. A little hummingbird could be cute, a cowboy hat, music note, come up with something yourself and you’ll love it.

Also do not over analyze it. My heart behind my ear was completely last minute and i love it, i have another that i thought about for months and like ok, but don’t love.
