Your Questions About Ladybug Stuff

Sharon asks…

Wind chime….?

Im making a windchime in ceramics (class im still in highschool). I have to make a base, clanger (not sure if thats the official name but its the thing that hits the chimes), and a weight.
As my base im going to do a dragonfly on a lillypad that looks like this:

Dragonflies on Water Lily

Does anyone have a suggestion on what i should make the clanger and weight? It has to go with the colors and the theme (which includes bugs n stuff…i was thinking about doing ladybugs but that doesnt go very well).

Jenny asks…

Why don’t people respect Halloween?!?

I am sick and freaking tired of seeing Princesses and Ladybugs and freaking Bunnies on my favorite night of all time. Halloween was originally created to scare off spirits with scary costumes. No spirit is gonna be scared of a freaking princess. Can someone PLEASE explain to me WHY this started? (btw i’m not dissing goth faeries goth stuff is cool)

Ladybugs answers:

RESPECT MY HOLIDAY!!! >:O
Okay, it’s not mine, but we all share it, which is more the reason to ignore those who don’t dress as you’d like. In general, I do wish people would give up the sexy stuff, but sex is apparently what makes things cool, so I doubt a majority would do such a thing. Creativity seems…obsolete. Bleak huh? But, fear not! There is you, and I, and others, who so totally think of the original meaning of the holiday, actually it’s many, many significances to many, many different people, and if we want our side respected, we have to respect others.(…as tacky and overdone as their side may sometimes be. >_>”)
Happy (early) Halloween! And Good Luck! :)

Chris asks…

Your Questions About Ladybug Facts

Susan asks…

Is this photo any good?

I am a newbie to photography and so had a lot of difficulty taking photos this day because the sunset was directly in the background. Are either of these two photos any good despite the fact that the exposure was imperfect? The second one I took at an angle (to avoid having the sun in the background) but I still feel I messed up…

Photo One: http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3321/4591225982_6a9b9b27f0.jpg

Photo Two: http://farm5.static.flickr.com/4008/4590603309_b976e3825a.jpg

lucky ladybug (:

Thanks, any advice as to how I could do better next time is greatly appreciated!
Btw I tried using flash but w/ it on I cant go past 1/200 shutter speed so then everything is overexposed
Actually, now that I think if it, the second photo did not have the sun directly in the background, so maybe I could have used the flash… hmm

Ladybugs answers:

These actually surprised me. I was expecting some dreck. The first one is well done, and you are on the right track on the second.

Your flash syncs to the shutter of your camera at 1/200 AND SLOWER. You can use this to your advantage, but first a little primer on the on camera flash.

All flashes run much faster than your shutter. I believe the flash on my canons are 1/10000. How can this possibly sync to my shutter you ask? It doesn’t – it goes so much faster that it floods the frame with light, the sync indicates the speed at which the entire frame will be open and exposing when the flash goes off. If you could make the shutter speed faster than 1/200 you would see only the flash on only 1/2 or 1/4 of the frame. What you need to consider with a flash is the distance between the flash and the subject. Most modern cameras use TTL = through the lens metering. You set the aperture to a given value – say ƒ8 – then focus. The camera figures out how much light to pump through the flash to give you ƒ8 at that distance. Somewhere in the recesses of the manual that came with the camera, the minimum flash distance will be listed. Its usually around 3 to 4 feet. RTFM my dear, read the friggin’ manual!

This is problematic on the close ups. Generally you are too close to the subject for the flash to be accurate. Place a piece of wax paper, diffusion gel (white), a kleenex, nylon stocking (white) over the flash and experiment with distance and aperture. Figure out which of the above give you the shot you want at what ƒ#. Write this down and keep it in the camera bag. Remember that your ƒ # controls your depth of field, so if you want more in focus you have to use a larger ƒ (like 11, or 16). OK great, So you do this and you notice that the background is black, very dark and/or muddy. You want the out of focus green stuff back there. No Problema!

This is where outsmarting your gear becomes a fine art. First meter the scene without the flash. Write down the shutter speed. Place the camera on manual and set the aperture to what ever ƒ# you’ve established as correct for the shot through your experiments. Set the shutter speed to whatever the reading was without the flash. This can be anything between 1/200 and Bulb. Take the photo, and the longer shutter speed allows the background to burn in, the diffuser keeps the flash from overexposing everything and Viola! You got the shot! I highly recommend you use a tripod. If you go below 1/125 it is very hard to hand hold the camera and not end up with any camera shake blur.

Good luck

Nancy asks…

**Could he like me or am I thinking too much into this?**?

Okay, so there’s this guy in one of my classes.. He starts conversations with me now and then.. small talk. I talk to him if he talks to me, but i never start conversations.. I’m too shy. Basically our conversations consist of me blushing and glancing nervously around all the time… He offered me gum a few times and asks me how I’m doing. Today I was wearing a necklace.. There was like an awkward silence in our group (four people, we were supposed to be doing geometry review) and i was looking down texting my friend when he randomly said “That’s a real pretty necklace you got, Jessica. Is it a ladybug?” I was like “yeah… thanks.” and he was like, “I bet you didn’t think I’d notice it, but I did.” He smiled a little and then we went on to talk about some other stuff. He didn’t say any of this in a snotty or sarcastic way, in fact he is always very serious and soft-spoken. Does this mean anything, should I make a move or is it just nothing? I like him, btw. and also btw it was a very small charm necklace, and most people think it is a cross until you look closer.

Ladybugs answers:

I’m a guy, and if I did something like this I would consider it flirting. He’s trying to notice things which other people might not notice as to make you feel special and notice him.

I think the best thing you should do is just start some conversations with him. He will realize that you like him back and maybe even get the courage to ask you out!

Good luck and I wish you the best :)

David asks…

any idea what breed my pony is?

she’s 4, has a blue eye, a white face, and two half socks on diagonal feet. she was black, but is bleaching out on her back and flank, shes getting little black spots on her girth and flank, adn some are spreading up her neck as she bleaches. i know for a fact she’s not a qh because of her build, but other than the paint and maybe appy, anything else? she has an exceptionally smooth gait, its soo hard to post on her. she’s not gaited, and she;s about 14.2 hh.

heres some pics
www.myspace.com/thisisme159 click the link, go to pics, click my photos, and her name is ladybug :)
thanks for some of the answers, i really think she’s a pint/morgan. ive been comparing her to some morgan conformation pics and she almost matches, i even found a filly morgan pic and she looks just like it. she may have some arab in her, but she deff doesnt carry her head like that, btu she does have a naturally high headset while she trots (morgan). if theres any other unusual breed that she could be (shetland, connamera, anything) just bring it up, id like maybe some more ideas before i feel sure what she is, even if she isnt what i think she is, its nice ot have an idea.

Ladybugs answers:

I agree with the guy above, Appy QH cross. Just because she has a lean body doesnt mean shes not a QH. Not all of them are stocky western type. I have one that looks like a thoroughbred. But she looks alot like my Appaloosa, only much smaller. Maybe theres some Arab in there, or pony possibly.

Your Questions About Ladybug Facts

Steven asks…

Can you help me on my writing style? Please and Thank you.?

Danielle could have stared into the wide open sky forever. The sun was brightly glowing and the above grounded place was like a giant sea. Puffy white clouds of sea foam were forming and growing larger and larger until the sky would be filled forever into it’s form. Birds seemed to dart, dancing with the wind as if they agreed that today was a good day. Yes, today should be a very good day, Danielle thought. She didn’t even mind the ladybugs that crawled up and tickled her arms. In fact, she cherished them. Maybe it would be easier for them to see the tall ceiling, she thought, smiling to herself.
Danielle could imagine the angels in the sky painting the tall glass ceiling from dusk to night, dabbing at the paint and brushing fine strokes of beautiful rich color. They would paint the moving paintings of blue, pink, orange, gold, navy, gray and black with shimmering stars in the night sky. Oh! If only she could talk to them! What great stories they would tell?
She felt the tingling sensation as a ladybug crawled slowly up to the top of her finger.
“Well, hello little stranger. Where do you bid?” She asked, peering lovingly into the tiny creature. The lady bug just cocked his head, and closed his eyes for a second.
“The City in the Sky, little thing? Is it beautiful?”
It stood there for a second, as if figuring if it should reply and how it should reply. Being a ladybug would probably make it pretty difficult to react with humans such as Danielle.
“I know, it must be very beautiful there. Do you have family up there?”
The stranger, instead of replying took his stance and fluttered away. Maybe it couldn’t wait to meet his family, Danielle thought happily. Then a wave or grief rushed over her, but luckily, it soon passed.

Thank you very much for reading it. Can you please tell me how you thought about this passage, tips on how I can do to make my writing style better, and what you think about this (strange and unorthodox) character, Danielle? Thanks.
The letters that have been blacked out aren’t making up a bad word!!! It is

My initial idea for this story is to have very opposing people in the school, have the pessimist go back home, have the school attacked, have the optimist look for the pessimist because she won’t be able to start or end her journey without the pessimist because the pessimist has knowledge that she doesn’t. At first, they hate each other, but by the end, they get along. Yeah, I know, it’s stupid, but the thing is, is that I’m wondering if Danielle (optimist) is a little bit too, umm, optimistic?
THANK YOU SO MUCH NELLY!!! I’m so happy that you put so much time in your answer! Thank you! I will try to smooth my writing style to make it much less confusing to the reader. Muahahaha!!! :D

Ladybugs answers:

Hmmm, you have potential here. I like how invested you are in imagery… But you take it a liiiittle far sometimes, and it becomes a little difficult to know exactly what you are trying to say. Some thoughts:
-what does “the above grounded place” refer to? Is this the sky? It is a little unclear. Especially because I don’t know where Danielle is technically sitting, this is a little confusing.
-Also, sea foam is an actual, physical thing… How is sea foam forming into clouds? And how does a sky “fill forever into its form (not “it’s,” btw)”? I’m not sure what you are saying here.
-if the sky is a “tall ceiling”, this is… Totally different than referring to the sky as a sea. Your metaphor, here, is inconsistent… While you can definitely compare something to more than one thing, there’s no transition here and it’s… Strangely confusing. Is Danielle looking at the sky as more than one thing at the same time, or does her attention shift to formulate the sky differently halfway through the progression of her thoughts? I recommend some kind of transition. Or keeping the metaphor consistent. If you talk about the sky as a sea (something vast and seemingly endless) and then put a “ceiling” on it, this says two very different things about the object, and these images conflict with each other.
-Also, saying that the ladybug probably finds it difficult to interact with humans is distracting :P but only because it interrupts the vaguely surreal representation of the ladybug as a being cognizant of the girl’s presence… The girl sees the ladybug as thinking, considering… Like a human “stranger” who just chooses not to speak. It is very cute :) . Grounding this girl’s thoughts in the practical problems with talking to ladybugs is sort of jarring as it emphasizes how much her thoughts have wandered from reality. If you want us to be caught up in this image, in this girl’s mental configuration of her surroundings, I would recommend leaving this out.
-saying a sun is glowing “brightly” is a little redundant.
-in the section where you talk about angels, your language gets a liiiittle repetitive: you use the words “ceiling,” “night,” and “paint” more than once within about three sentences.

Other than that, I like it! I think the idea is interesting, and once you smooth out your writing style a little you have potential to produce some very effective imagery. I actually really like how the girl talks to the ladybug and asks it about the city in the sky… It is strangely moving, as it shows how moved this character is by the little things happening around her, by her surroundings, and how she figures things poetically. She seems like… Sort of a delicate dreamer, and I think it is an interesting characterization with a lot of potential. Keep it up!

Thomas asks…

Is suffering and death part of the attraction?

Just read an article about insect farms for children. It says:

Rick Brannan, CEO of Wonderco, said his company’s ant farm was initially marketed as a fun way to teach children about life, not death. “About a year ago, we re-examined our entire line of nature exploration toys–the ant farms, firefly lanterns, butterfly keepers, and ladybug jars,” Brannan said. “What we found was surprising: Despite the fact that, 100 percent of the time, these toys resulted in the death of the living creatures caged inside, parents continued to buy them for their children. It was then that we realized that the suffering and death must be part of the attraction.”

http://www.theonion.com/articles/ant-farm-teaches-children-about-toil-death,334/

Is Brannan correct? Since parents buy these items knowing the insects will die, is there an attraction to suffering and death or just a disconnect from living things like insects?

Ladybugs answers:

I bought my son a butterfly habitat, and after the butterflies” hatched” we set them free. Asfar as the other ones, I think kids get that bugs die and probably loe iterest before they do.

Answer #3 For Michael Jackson 1958 – FOREVER?

Praying Mantis eggs, (or Ootheca) are usually layed by the female in September or August. You can find them on trees, attached to fences, on the sides of houses, or pretty much anywhere else. Just not underground. And yes I do know a lot about other insects. There are over 40,000 species of spiders worldwide, but only 3,400 of them can be found in America. They are opportunistic predators and feed on anything that gets caught on their web. A spiders body is divided into two sections, the cephalothorax and the abdomen. I can probably go on and on about all the insects I know, but that would take up like 100 pages of this. Oh, and also, about the ladybugs in your house, they do in fact hibernate in large groups during the winter. They usually hibernate in trees, but your house is warmer I guess. If you have anymore questions, ask me. I should really start a web page forum or something. It would be much easier.

Ladybugs answers:

I think that it would be really great if you could start a web page forum. If you ever do you need to let me know right away.I have a few questions for you I will list them below for you.I appreciate that you take the time to answer them.

Why are they called lady bugs are they all females?Do they bite?
Do all spiders bite? Are there any spiders in upstate new york that can make you ill if they bite?I have always been so terribly afraid of spiders no matter how small they are.Are most of them harmless?
Is there such a thing as flying cockroaches? I’m a bout to move to Kentucky and a friend told me that flying cockroaches infest many homes there would you know if that is true?
Can bumble bees sting? My mother always told me not to be afraid of them as they can’t sting you

Ladybugs answers:

If your tv has a USB port, you can. I do it all the time :) You need a usb port behind your tv that’s all. New tv’s and plasma tv’s got em. U can usually connect it with the wire you are using to connect ur iPod to the PC. Hope it helps :)

Donna asks…

Hubby really cracked me up! Lol. 10 points if you can name the movie quote!?

My hubby has a random sense of humor. He likes to bust out random movie quotes, or start singing any song that pops into his head. Well I was sitting on the couch the other day, he was in the bathroom, and all of a sudden I hear him burst out “So, being a ladybug automatically makes me a girl!!???” Lol, I about fell off the couch laughing, which says a lot since I’m 9 months preggo! Do you recognize the movie quote? What quirky little things do your hubbys/boyfriends/ SO do that make you laugh? :)

Richard asks…

Does anyone remember Jonathan Brandis?

He was in Seaquest (TV show) and the movie Ladybugs….when i was younger i had such a crush on him…
He died? How? When?

Ladybugs answers:

I remember him, he was a cutie. Even in that stupid karate movie.

Here is what I found on his death:
Jonathan’s sad death is at the moment shrouded in a degree of mystery. Reports are suggesting that tests are to be carried out the results of which should be known in 4-6 weeks. What has become a little clearer though is the chain of events which led to his tragic end.

It seems that late on the night of November 11 a friend had visited Jonathan at his apartment in Los Angeles and discovered that Jonathan had attempted to hang himself. The friend naturally dialled 911, and Jonathan was transported by paramedics to the Cedars-Sinai Hospital where sadly he died the following day as a result of his injuries.

No motive for the suicide has yet been suggested, and Jonathan apparently did not leave a note of any kind.

Your Questions About Ladybug Tattoos On Foot

Robert asks…

my first tattoo help!?

I have recently overcame depression, with the right medication, love, and great support.
but i need help, i want to find a quote that would go good as a tattoo with a picture above or underneath it

i want it on my foot, and i want the quote to be a small sentence or less.

im thinking about using this image, but just change it around a little bit.

Ladybugs answers:

“Love is the movement”
Its the slogan of To Write Love on Her Arms, an organization providing help to depressed and suicidal teens.

Jenny asks…

Where should I get my next tattoo?

I love ladybugs and my lucky number is 11. I am going to get 11 actual size ladybugs on various places on my body. I know I want one on my foot, but I’m not sure about the other 10. Please give suggestions and nothing lame about being sure before I get them. I have a few other tats and am quite confident with this decision. Thanks!

Ladybugs answers:

Okay one on your foot, on on your low belly, shoulder, butt check, back of neck, back, behind your ear on your neck, wrist?, or hand?, thigh….i think it would look cute lady bugs in different parts of your body that’s actually a really unique idea it will be cute…..that’s all i could think of!

Mark asks…

What do you think of this tattoo idea?

I’m going to get a ladybug on my foot, because my mom used to call me ladybug, and it represents some other things for me. So I was thinking, since I’m getting something to remind me of my mom, I thought of adding “I’ll love you forever, I’ll like you for always” In small, pretty writing along either the inside or the outside of my foot, with maybe the lady bug above it to the side or something.
Do you think that’s a stupid idea?
Btw, “I’ll love you forever, I’ll like you for always” is from a song my dad used to (and still does) sing to me, and also from a book both my parents read to me.

The writing would be like this http://www.flickr.com/photos/kcarloni/623137253/in/photostream/
And the ladybug would go above it, either closer to the ankle or the toe
Oh, and this would be my first tattoo.
The ladybug is a for sure thing, the writing is a new idea I’m just starting to think about…what do you think?

Ladybugs answers:

I think this is the type of design where it doesn’t matter at all what the people on Yahoo! Answers or anyone else thinks about it. To you it has deep meaning and love behind it. All the little pieces hold a slightly different meaning but come together as a whole as something meaningful that you.

I don’t think anyone on here except a loser or two would tell you it’s a dumb idea and you’re an idiot for getting it. When it comes to tattoos, I don’t really care for it when people just gets tons of meaningless flash done because they looks cool.

Even thought I’m a guy and would never get a ladybug tattooed on my foot ;) I think your idea is a great one. It took me about 6 years to get 3 tattoos because it just took that long for my mind to find something that held meaning to me. Once I thought of the idea, there was no question as to whether it was the right one or not.
